VERDA LIGON (Am. 1902-1970)


Ligon was born in Dallas where she was a student of Thomas M. Stell and attended Southern Methodist University. She studied as well at the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Phoenix Art Institute, New York. She taught for forty years in Dallas schools. Ligon died in Dallas.

Exhibitions: Annual Allied Arts Exhibition, Dallas (1928-29, 1931-33, 1935 honorable mention, 1937 purchase prize, 1938, 1941-42, 1945); Dallas Painters in Oils (1935), Women Artists of Dallas County (1938); Dallas Museum of Fine Arts; Texas Centennial Exposition, Dallas (1936); Golden Jubilee Exposition, State Fair of Texas, Dallas (1938); Texas-Oklahoma General Exhibition (1941); Texas Printmakers Circuit Exhibition (1942-45); Annual Texas Print Exhition, Dallas (1943-44, 1947).
