ROBIN ARTINE SMITH (Am. 1903-1991)


Smith was born in Warren, Arkansas. She attended the Art Institute of Chicago (1921-1925) and Northwestern University (1926-1927), then served as art director for Revell and Company, Chicago (1927-1932). After studying under Hubert Ropp (1931-1932), she spent time abroad in Vienna (1932-1934) and worked in New York City as a freelance artist (1934-1940). She made Dallas her home thereafter. A specialist in watercolors, she was a student of Eliot O’Hara in 1945 and again in 1953. Smith was married to and later divorced from Frederick Omar Georlitz. Some of her exhibitions included: Frank Reaugh Club, Dallas (1941, 1943-1946); Klepper Sketch Club, Dallas (1943-1945); Dallas Museum of Fine Arts (1943 and 1947 one-woman); Annual Allied Art Exhibition, Dallas (1943-award, 1944 award and purchase prize, 1945-1946, 1947 award 1948-50); National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors, New York ( 1945-1948); Chicago Watercolor Society (1948) Collections: Dallas Museum of Art
